If you have a soft spot for unique, highly-detailed R/C machines, you need to see the latest release from FMS. The 1/12-scale Land Rover Series II RTR is their latest small(er) scale trail rig, taking a unique, 1:1 model and shrinking it down for R/C adventures.
The Land Rover Series II RTR is a visually intriguing machine. I’ve often considered the Series I, II, and III Land Rovers as acquired tastes, aesthetically speaking, and this representation is no different. With that said, FMS does a masterful job of recreating the quirky styling of this adventure rig through molded ABS plastic.
The body features several realistic details, such as opening doors, LED head-tail-and-marker lights, a removable roof, and a fold-down windshield. In fact, there appear to be multiple roof sections, allowing you to convert this SUV-styled machine into a pickup truck.
Three body colors are available to choose from, blue, yellow, and green. Each of these colors is accented by a white roof/topper and white wheels.
Similar to their other 1/12-scale models, the Land Rover Series II features a ladder-frame chassis design, leaf-spring suspension, and a two-speed transmission. While these vehicles aren’t intended for extreme crawling, their low-gear setting allows them to creep along when the trail calls for finesse versus speed.
The chassis uses ball bearings throughout, offering smoother performance than static bushings. A 180-sized brushed motor (powered by a 2S LiPo battery) keeps this vehicle moving, while a 2.4GHz radio helps maintain control at a distance of up to 30m.
