Does small-scale = less fun?

By: Tim Gluth

Should size make a difference in how much fun you can have?

Don't let size fool you. Small-scale R/C vehicles are just as fun (if not more) than their larger-scale counterparts. It's easy to judge a book by its cover, but if you're looking to bring the fun of the radio-controlled hobby indoors or to a smaller outdoor lot, you may want to look at getting a smaller-scale vehicle.

I'm a believer.

For those of you familiar with my story, I dove into the hobby in 2012 with a Traxxas Slash. My hope was to have a machine that I could use indoors and out, depending on what Mother Nature threw my. However the size and speed couldn't be contained to my basement and I needed to rethink my plan for indoor R/C domination. Not wanting to go the route of a toy-grade vehicle, I took a longer look at a category that I had quickly dismissed earlier.
Finding a good eBay deal on an ECX Smash, I pulled the trigger and was on my way to learning about these small cars. As I soon found out...they're just as fun as their larger cousins.  After a quick battery upgrade, I was sold on how amazing these machines are. Though I still have one small-scaler in my garage, I'm keeping an eye open for others to add.
What's your take? Are you a convert from larger-to-smaller scale or have you always seen the fun in these mini machines?
